Frequently Asked Questions: Promotional

What Does The 2019-2020 Background Look Like?
Our background changes each year, but does not change throughout the year. Whether you have your free mini session in January or September, the background remains the same.
Professional muslins (fabric backdrops) are designed to compliment any color. Unlike green screen technology, you won't disappear into the background if your color scheme is similar.
Not sure what to wear? We've prepared a simple guide to get you going.

When Can I Redeem My Free Photo?
Free photo shoots are scheduled approximately every three or four weeks, always on a Saturday or Sunday.
We do not offer free promotional mini-sessions every weekend or during the week, but on pre-determined dates announced via our website and our Facebook page.
For current dates, please view our Free Photo page where you can also request your appointment online.

What does the free photo shoot consist of?
Your coupon via the volunteer rescue department and Mitchell Photography entitles you to one free five-minute mini-session, two poses, and one free 10 x 13 pre-printed color family portrait.
Scheduling for free photos must adhere to our pre-determines photo shoot dates, which you can view here.
Mitchell Photography sets up a professional pop-up studio at the rescue department so you can see where and how your donations are being put to use in the community.

When do I pick up my pictures?
When you arrive at your session, you'll be asked to complete a registration card and to schedule a viewing appointment for the following weekend.
Viewing appointments take place at the same place as your photo shoot: the volunteer rescue department building.
At the viewing appointment you'll receive your free 10 x 13 print as well as the opportunity to purchase additional prints and packages if you choose.
All pictures are pre-printed and ready to take home, so if you intend to make a purchase, please be prepared to do so at your viewing appointment.
Coupon holder must be present at the viewing appointment. Please do not send someone in your place to pick up your free 10 x 13 color family portrait.
Failure to view pictures within 30 days voids the free photo offer.

Where are the Photographs Taken?

Who takes the photographs?
Free photographs in support of the volunteer rescue department are donated by Mitchell Photography, a custom portrait studio in Richmond, Kentucky.
Mitchell Photography, formerly Classic Touch Productions, was born as a philanthropic endeavor in which James Mitchell offered his photography services at no charge to encourage donations to local volunteer rescue departments, including a free 10x13 color family portrait to members of the community who compassionately donate to volunteer rescue departments. Those donations are applied to life-saving tools and equipment that serve the community in emergency situations.

With more than 20 years experience in the photography industry, Mr. Mitchell is a proud member of the PPA (Professional Photographers of America), and former member of the KPPA (Kentucky Professional Photographers Association).
Although James Mitchell still dedicates his craft in service of volunteer rescue departments, his photography business has evolved to include high-quality specialty sessions that encompass:
- Maternity sessions
- Newborn pictures
- High school senior portraits
- Engagement celebrations
- Wedding Photography
- Family portraiture

Mitchell Photography Studio originally opened its doors with a grand opening in Bowling Green, Kentucky in 2009 with full support for the Warren County Rescue Department. Eight years later in 2017, James Mitchell and Mitchell Photography relocated to Richmond, Kentucky where he continues his work with Madison County Rescue and Berea Volunteer Fire and Rescue.
In Richmond, Mitchell Photography offers studio and outdoor photography sessions that continue to emanate classic elegance with a modern edge.

How many people can be in my picture?
We welcome families of all shapes and sizes, big and small.
We’ll happily photograph a single subject, but also thoroughly enjoy those generations photographs where grandparents, siblings, children, and grandchildren come together to celebrate family.
People have used their free photo for engagement pictures, maternity, newborn, prom pictures, sports or school uniforms, honorable members of our military in dress, and even for capturing playful expressions such as halloween costumes or ugly Christmas sweaters!
Are the pictures taken indoors or outside?
Promotional photo shoots through the volunteer rescue department are taken indoors. We bring professional equipment to set up a pop-up studio. We use expertly measured lighting, high-quality muslin backdrops, a variety of posing tools, and more than 30 years experience in high-volume promotional portraiture and custom photo shoots.
